My Entire Digital Product Income Breakdown (what I made + my expenses)
A full breakdown of how I built a multi-6-figure business with digital products and content creation... from my laptop
I’ve made $526,037 from digital products (plus $313,301+ from VA work) over the past 2.5 years.
That’s half a million dollars from something I created once — and continue to sell on autopilot.
🧾 The Breakdown
Total earned from digital products: $526,037
What I sold:
94% from online courses
5% from smaller digital products (like templates + guides)
1% from affiliate income
(Again, this doesn’t include the $310K+ I made from freelancing/VA work. This post is strictly breaking down my digital product income for those of you who’ve asked.)
🏆 My Best-Selling Product (and Why It Worked)
The Virtual Freelancer Academy is my signature course — and still my #1 seller.
Why? For a few reasons:
It’s the one I talk about the most online (aka, the one that gets the most marketing).
It solves a clear problem. It teaches people how to work online as a virtual assistant, get clients, and run their VA business — even if they’ve never freelanced before.
It’s an online course (one of the most profitable types of digital products) that is packed with value, not fluff.
Because I talk about my own journey as a VA openly, so my audience can get to know me and eventually trust me enough to want to learn from me.
That’s the part people forget: people don’t just buy your product, they buy your story.
🧨 My Most Profitable Month
My most profitable month so far brought in over $40k - all from one digital product.
I didn’t run a launch or a promo. It was from one of my Reels that went a little viral and BOOM… sales came pouring in.
There have been other viral Reels and TikTok’s that have caused an uptick in sales, but this was the highest one so far.
BUT…. that moment only came after months of consistent content, setting up a sales funnel and sells without me, nurturing my audience, and creating something that actually helped people.
Without all of that, the $40K month would have never happened.
🚀 My First Ever Month
This is the one everyone is always interested in because they want to know what’s possible when you’re just starting out.
I started with ZERO audience, ZERO email lists, and ZERO followers.
I launched my first ever online course to my tiny audience (that I grew as I built the course) and it made $20K in the first month.
It felt surreal. I was shocked.
But I also knew what I was doing.
Because I had already helped my clients launch their online courses, so I knew what to do to have a successful launch.
By month 6, I hit $100K.
🎯 Strategy That Actually Worked
– I grew my audience and built the course at the same time
– I shared my story instead of trying to sound like an “expert”
– I batched my content so I didn’t burn out
– I focused on branding, storytelling, and consistency
I didn’t have ads.
I didn’t have a team.
I didn’t need a tech background.
I just stayed consistent, created what I knew would help people, and showed up online like a real human.
⏱️ Time Investment
Creating a course: About 2 months.
Creating a digital guide: 1–2 weeks.
But once they’re done, they’re done.
I still make money every week from products I haven’t created in over two years (although I do update them often because I’m a Type A girly who wants her students to always have the latest info).
Now, my only focus is showing up, creating content, and connecting with my audience.
That’s what sells. Not launches. Not fancy funnels. Not complicated tech.
🧾 What Did It Cost to Make Over $500K?
You might think you need a huge budget to start an online course business — but you really don’t.
Here are the basics you need:
– Course platform: $150/month (I use Thinkific)
– Email software: $20/month (I like Flodesk)
– Canva Pro: $15/month
– Domain + website: $100/year
– Webinar hosting (optional): $500/year (I recommend WebinarJam)
– Occasional contractor help (optional): Less than $5K/year
Most of my income came from content I created for free — on Instagram, TikTok, and now my blog.
That’s why I love digital products.
Low cost. High return.
And you can get started from your couch.
🔥 Real Talk
I didn’t start with a big audience.
I built my audience while I built my first course.
That’s a mistake people make — they build something in silence and wonder why no one buys.
You have to build both at the same time.
And if your audience is small? That’s a good thing.
You can talk to them. Learn what they need.
You don’t need thousands of followers — you need the right people.
🙋♀️ What People Always Ask Me
Q: How long does it take to create a digital product?
– My first course took 2 months.
– A guide takes me about 2 weeks.
Q: Do you still make money from products you created a year ago?
– Yes! Most of my products are over a year old. The money comes from the content I post today and new people that find me.
Q: Do you run ads?
– Nope. It’s all organic.
Q: Did you have an audience before launching?
– Not really. I built my audience and my offer at the same time. By the time I launched, I had about 400 people in my email list.
Q: What advice would you give to someone starting out?
– Stick to what you know, be original, and don’t wait to be “ready.”
Start messy. It’s the only way.
🧠 If You’re Thinking About Starting
Here’s what I want you to know:
– You don’t need to be an expert. You just need to be a few steps ahead.
– Don’t copy what other creators are doing. Be original. Be real.
– Don’t wait until your audience is “big enough.” Start now. Grow as you go.
– Start with something you know — a skill, a story, a problem you solved.
– Focus on transformation, not perfection.
You’ll be shocked how many people want to learn from you — but only if you start sharing.
